Distress Oxides + Glossy Paper - a birthday card

Hello everyone!

I am OBSESSED with Distress Oxides on Glossy Paper.
Every time the result is different and gorgeous.

The card was created for a special crafty friend's birthday recently and she loved it. I hope you do too.
Be sure to check out the video at the end of the blog to see a full step-by-step tutorial.

~The completed card~

When making these backgrounds I like to try some different color combo's with the Distress Oxides.
This one is definitely a fave - Worn Lipstick; Twisted Citron and Walnut Stain.

The layering stencil is from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous - Splash THS080

The Perfect Blend

Ah, the delicious smell of coffee when heating embossing powder.
Wait. What?
Yes, you heard me right. Kim, the creative genius behind the embossing powders of Emerald Creek Craft Supplies has brought together a perfect blend of gorgeous java colored embossing powder and the yummy scent of fresh brewed coffee. She's has called it Just Java and it's addictive. This embossing powder will be available on January 20th. Ask your local retailer to carry it or order it directly from Emerald Creek.

I recently created a card for a friend who shares my love for a great cup of coffee and I couldn't resist using this Just Java embossing powder.

Festive Tree - Christmas Card

Hello! I have been busy making Christmas cards so I can get them in the mail by Dec 1.
This week I will posting some these cards.

These first 2 cards were made using the NEW Tim Holtz Watercolor Tree
Stamp from Stampers Anonymous.

This set is a layered stamp - the base layer is stamped with Peeled Paint Distress Ink.
The next layer was stamped with Forest Moss. These trees were stamped on to the 'label' paper from last years Christmas Paper Stash pack from Tim Holtz Idea-ology.

I stamped the star with Fossilized Amber Distress Ink. The decorations were stamped with Ranger Emboss-It then embossed with Candy Red Embossing Powder from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies.

I trimmed out the tree image, layered this over some Distress cardstock and then adhered to a piece of pattern paper from the 2017 Christmas Paper Stash from Tim Holtz Idea-ology. This is an 8x8 paper pack and I love using these for cardmaking.

Tim Holtz Tag Swap - #2

I just participated in my 2nd Tim Holtz Tag Swap.
I designed & created these tags for 2 fellow Tim Holtz Addicts - Sarah & Megan.

I started with 2 Kraft tags & 4 colours of Distress Oxides ~
Worn Lipstick, Broken China, Wilted Violet & Spiced Marmalade.

I applied the Worn Lipstick & Spiced Marmalade inks with an ink blending tool
& spritzed with some water.

Next step - I applied each colour separately to my craft mat and dipped my tag into in.
I did this with all four colours.

Next step - I took the 'honeycomb' die from the Mixed Media set from Sizzix &
die cut some of the edges of my tag. These are going to be the top layer of my tag.

I die cut the main part of my tags as a card. I applied the Worn Lipstick & Spiced Marmalade with a blending tool to the inside of the 'card'. I spritzed one side the 'Blocks' layering stencil with some water then laid it on the card. I let it sit for about 30 seconds before lifting it off and repeating on the other side.

Next step ~ (sorry I forgot to take photos) for the outside of my 'card' I used the same 4 colours of Ditress Oxides & the same techniques used on the first set of tags. I ended with blending Seedless Preserves on the front of one card and Wilted Violet on the front of the other.
I then took the 2 tags I made first and adhered them over the front of the cards.
I also took some of the 'honeycomb' pieces and adhered them on the back of my card.

To create my flowers I blended Distress Oxides on to a piece of smooth white cardstock. I stamped the flowers from the Flower Jar stamp set all over my card stock then used the coordinating die set to cut them out.

I used an x-acto knife to cut a tiny slit in the 'jar', then slide the stems of the flower through and adhered with some tape.

I stamped my sentiment inside my card and adhered a few of the extra flowers below it.

My tag cards were finished and ready to mailed off to new crafty friends.

Quick Birthday Card

Welcome back!
Today's post is a short one about the quick creation of a birthday card.
I needed a quick card to send in a care package that would be heading off to
my son at university.

I grabbed my Candied Apple Distress Oxide ink pad and Sprayer.
I applied some ink to my splat mat and sprayed it with some water.

I laid my watercolour paper in the ink then gave the ink a blast of canned air.
I love this splatter effect! I repeated this technique a few times until I was happy with it.

My focal point - the birthday hat - is the from the 2015 STAMPtember Blueprint Set.
I stamped it with Archival Ink on watercolour paper & coloured it with Distress Markers.

I stamped the image on my card base before layering the coloured birthday hat over it with
dimensional foam.

Halloween + Etc Tag

Hello! I am so happy to be sharing a Halloween project that has been published in the

I started with a small Ecetera tag that I had painted with gesso +and applied molding paste through the woodgrain stencil. (Sorry no pics).

Once the paint/molding paste was completely dry I used Distress Paints in various brown tones: Ground Espresso,Vintage Photo, Black Soot & Walnut Stain.
I dry brushed over the surface of the tag until I was happy with it. To finished off the tag I added some script stamping with Archival Ink in Potting Soil

To create my focal point I first took a piece of watercolor paper and Distress Oxide Inks in Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber & Vintage Photo.
I used the largest die from the Stitched Rectangle Thinlit die set to die cut out my background frame.

The image of the 4 boys holding the pumpkins is from the Found Relatives Occasions set from Tim Holtz Idea-logy. I gave it a very light sanding to add some distress, coloured the pumpkins with my Spiced Marmalade Distress Marker and added some Ground Espresso ink with my Tim Holtz Spritzer Tool.

It was time to start assembling my tag!

I stamped some pumpkins on the scraps of Distress Oxide watercolor paper I had leftover and layered these over the Twisted Edge die cut.  A page torn out of an old book that I inked up and stamped a spider on made a another layer. I added some Halloween Rub-Ons to my tag as well.

I found this pumpkin in my stash - its from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Oddities & Charms set that made the perfect addition to my  focal image. All I did was use my Spiced Marmalade Distress Crayon to add some colour.
