My One True Love......Wanderlust Week 6

Hello to all my crafty friends!
It has been a busy time in Paradise. My husband & I are in the process of moving back to
Calgary. There has been lots of packing and driving which has left little time for crafting & creating.

I did manage to find a little this weekend to get caught up on my Wanderlust adventure and now have a 2 page art journal spread to share - just in time for Valentines Day.

The teacher for Week 6 was Amanda Grace. Her style is refreshing and very enlightening - I hope that one day I can use my art journaling to express my deepest thoughts and feelings in such a beautifully raw way as she does. This week was an exploration of textures and techniques while at the same time creating a love letter to my husband.

My page ended up being a bit messy but in the spirit of "embracing imperfection" I left it - blobs of ink, spelling mistakes and all.

Wanderlust 2017 - January Challenge

Hello my crafty people!

I am one month in to Wanderlust 2017 and I could not possibly be enjoying it more!
The teachers & classes have been incredibly inspiring and have really helped me be creative
in some new and wonderful ways.

January's challenge for Wanderlust students was to go outside and choose 3 colours from natures palette to create a journal page that tells a story of your life in January.

We live near a park that has a pretty good hill on one side of it. It's a really popular tobogganing hill for the kids in our neighborhood. On the day I read the challenge for Janaury, I took my dog for a walk and we went by this hill. It was a nice day, chilly but there was a bright blue sky and there were lots of kids out there. On either side of the hill are clusters of evergreen trees.
I decided that my colours were going to be blues & greens.
It just so happened that I already had a page in my art journal that had blue & greens on it from cleaning up some spray stains from another project. To tine down the colours I dry brushed some gesso over both pages.

I found some pages in an old book that I had that were perfect! After I decided the placement I glued these down with matte medium. To help blend the book pages in to the background I whitewashed them with a bit of gesso.

Next I added some evergreen trees with some Distress Paint - Pine Needles & Cracked Pistachio and The Woodland mini layering stencil from Tim Holtz.

Next, I added some more images using the Snowflake & Speckles Layering Stencils with some White Linen Dylusions Paint. The last step was taking my Distress Crayons and adding some grey, white & black to the edges of my pages and stamping my sentiment.

Wanderlust 2017 - Week3

Greetings, crafty people!
Wow! Week 3 of Wanderlust 2017 really pushed me out of my comfort zone.
Like waaaaaaaay outside of my comfort zone.

Wilna Furstenberg was the teacher for Week 3 class & her art
journaling style is so amazing!

I don't freehand sketch. I like to stamp images and colour them in.
It's what I'm comfortable doing but I am committed to my statement
of Being Fearless when it comes to art journaling.

So I took a deep breath and put brush to paper. Overall I was quite pleased
with how this turned out. In fact I was kind of surprised at how much I loved it.

Wanderlust 2017 - Week 2

It's week 2 of my Wanderlust adventure.
This weeks instructor was the insanely talented Mary Wangerin.
Check out her blog The Turquoise Paintbrush for lots of mixed media inspiration

I created my mixed media layout on a 12x12 sheet of chipboard & taking inspiration from a quote I found ~ "Advice from a Tree: Stand tall & Proud, Sink Your Roots Deep Into The Earth, Drink Plenty Of Water, Go Out On A Limb, Be Content With Your Natural Beauty, Remember Your Roots, Enjoy The View"

I really enjoyed building up layers of paint, gesso, paper scraps, stamping & stenciling.

I just love all the layers of paint.

I created my focal point with a stencil, some doodling & stamping.
Don't look to close or you'll see my typo. Oops.

Here is my finished mixed media project.

Products Used:

Acrylic Paint
Distress Paint
Dylusions Paint

Wanderlust 2017 - Week 1

I decided that in 2017 I needed to start art journaling more. To express myself in new ways
while learning new things about myself and my art journey.

So I searched for and without overthinking it, I signed up for Wanderlust 2017 from Everything Art.

Week one was for discovering my statement for 2017.
After sitting down, with a cup of tea and thinking about what I wanted to accomplish, I noticed 2 statements that I kept writing over and over in my journal.

There it is. Out in the open for all to see.

If you are looking for a wonderful way to explore your journey into art journal & mixed media arts, I highly recommend Wanderlust 2017. Go to Everything Art  to find out more.
