I have an art journal page page I created to celebrate the season -

 I used the Home For The Holidays Paper Pack from Wild Whisper Designs.

I absolutely love the pattern paper from Wild Whisper. It's heavy weight makes it
durable for mixed media which I love. Each pack come with 6 sheets of double sided paper and the designs are fresh and unique.

Get Distracted & Celebrate

Today was the first day in almost a week that I felt like getting creative. I have been fighting off a nasty cold/flu and it was a doozy. To get myself back into a creative groove I decided grab my Distraction Journal.

I flipped through my journal, chose these 2 pages and gathered up some materials: Dylusions paints & mini layering stencils.

I applied some stenciled images randomly over both pages. At this point I had no idea where this was going - I was just enjoying the process.

I am really enjoying using mask & silhouette stencils at the moment but I only one set and it was too big to use for these 7"x 5" pages so I decided to make my own. I used a piece of acetate packaging that I had been saving and my Butterfly Duo die from Sizzix.

I used Black Marble Dylusions Paint & a foam applicator with my die cut stencils. I then used some bright Distress Crayons to apply a bit colour to the edges of the butterflies.

I chose the Celebrate Life sentiment from a Dina Wakely Stamp Set to use and the Picket Fence Distress Ink worked great over the black paint. 

To finish off my page I used extra fine point Sharpies in pink & purple to trace the outline of the butterflies and add some splatters.

Creative juices restored! I'm back and ready to get crafty.

Be The Rainbow....art journal

Welcome to my blog! You came on a great day - I have an art journal entry to share.

This one started with a quote - Be The Rainbow In Someone Else's Cloud.

This is my mantra every day.

I started by directly applying the ink by running the Distress Oxide ink pads horizontally across both pages. I spritzed with some water while drying with my heat tool. Pretty simple and really fast.

Next I took a brand new to me Silhouette & Mask Stencil from Dyan Reaveley & Ranger. I love these! They are so versatile and so much fun.
I used the stencil on the left page and layered the images. Then I used the largest sized mask on the right page and applied black Dylusions paint over the entire page.

I stamped my sentiment on the right hand page by using Versamark black ink over the image and Distress Oxide ink over the black paint. I absolutely love how these inks show up over the the dark background.

I finished off my pages by using my Dylusions white paint pen to outline the figures and drawing some lines around the page on the right side.

All The G's - another letter canvas.

I'm back with another chipboard letter canvas - this time it's all the G's - and features a recent photo of my husband Glenn. 

Here is the finished canvas ~

As with my other canvases - I started with a plain 8x10 canvas that I adhered every single chipboard 'g' that I could find in my stash. I used every single one! Once the matte medium was dry I covered the entire canvas in gesso.  

After the gesso was completely dry I began spraying my canvas with Dylusions Ink Sprays ~ Fresh Lime, Calypso Teal & London Blue.

I couldn't let all the awesome colour go to waste so I grabbed a couple of tags and my art journal to soak it all up for future projects.

Next I added some stamping using some of my favourite texture stamps and Archival Ink in Jet Black, Leaf Green & Potting Soil.

I grabbed my Distress Crayons next and used them to apply some highlights to the embossed textures on some the letters.

I even out the background & to help the letters pop, I painted around the letters with Dylusions Paint ~ Fresh Lime & Vibrant Turquoise. I love Dylusions Paints - they are so lush and smooth!

Next up - my trusty Black Distress Crayon to dirty things up a bit.

I used my white Sharpie paint pen to add highlights around the letters of his name and a few added splotches of paint in white and black to finish it off before adding the focal point.

To anchor my photo to the canvas I took some cheese cloth and rolled it in some Squeezed Lemonade Distress Stain. To grunge it up I rubbed my Walnut Stain Distress Ink Pad over it.

my next layer is a piece of wood veneer paper from MME that I have had in my stash for quite sometime. I used Walnut Stain Distress Ink & my blending tool to add some colour then the spritz & flick technique to remove some colour and to add interest.

All The D's ~ Dashing Daylen

Hello! I am back today with another mixed media canvas I created 

using chipboard letters from my stash. This canvas features a selfie photo I 'stole' from my son's Facebook page. He's my youngest and this past fall went off to college to pursue his dream of becoming a graphic artist/character designer. Check out his artist page on facebook to follow his journey and to see some of his art - Daylen Chupik ~ Artist.

Here is my finished  canvas ~ 

First I started with an 8x10 canvas and adhered my chipboard down with matte medium

then covering it the entire thing in 3 coats of gesso.

Once everything was dried, I started spraying my canvas with Dylusions Sprays ~

Fresh Lime, Dirty Martini, Polished Jade.

Once the sprays were dry I used my Black Marble Distress Paint & blending tool with a couple different layering stencils to add some random patterns & added some Peeled Paint & Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink. The copper splatters are irRESISTible Texture Spray from Imagine Crafts.

At this point, I realized that the letters of my son's name needed a little help to pop off the dark canvas background so I took a white fine point Sharpie Paint Pen and traced around them. I also used this pen to add some white splatters to help break up the darkness of the canvas.

To help 'frame' the canvas I added some more Black Marble Distress Paint with a blending tool

 to the sides and edges of the canvas.

Now on to my focal point ~ the photo was a selfie I took off my son's Facebook page. I downloaded it and did some editing in PicMonkey before printing it off on linen cardstock.

I used the Lattice Framework Die from Sizzix with the new Leather Paper Sheets also from Sizzix.

I added some Burnt Copper Leaves & Hammered Metal Embossing Powder from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies  to add a rusty metallic feel to the lattice.

 The anchor piece for my photo was some cardboard that I roughly torn up to be a little bit larger that my photo & dry brushed some black gesso over.

Once again ~ the final project. I enjoyed making these much and using up so many chipboard letters that I am also making more! One for me, my husband, our dog, a family one.....so many ideas!

Ever since the weather turned nice I have had a hard time staying in my craft room.

I just want to be outside enjoying the sun, warm temps. My garden needed some well deserved attention and the patio was screaming for the planters to be filled with flowers.

I did manage to sit down and make a few Thank You cards for my daughter to give to her co-workers

at the lab she is finishing her practicum up at. It felt good to get messy & I may just find myself back in the craft room again today. It is delightfully sunny outside though. ;)

Here is one of the finished cards ~ you'll just have to stick around until the end of this post to see the other three.

I started with my favourite 140lb cold press watercolour paper,

Peacock Feathers Distress Spray & a floral stencil (Sorry, I have no idea what company it is from. Its an oldie but a goodie).

After spraying the stain I gave it a quick 2 spritzes of mist before flipping the stencil over onto a second piece of watercolour paper and rolling my paper towel over it.

I repeated the same technique on 2 more pieces of watercolour paper but used Wilted Violet

Distress Spray & Tim Holtz Gothic Layering Stencil.

I inked the edges of all the cards using the coordinating Distress Inks & my round blending tool

Next I added some random stamping before applying some Dylusion Paint through a stencil with some blending foam.

All that was left to do was to add my sentiment and emboss it with fine detail embossing powders.

After taking a couple of weeks off to recharge I am ready to start creating again.

I couldn't think of a better way to jump-start the creative juices

than to be in the presence of the fabulous Dyan Reaveley.

Dyan was guest instructor at Scrap Addicts in Edmonton this past weekend.

She taught 4 classes over 2 days. I took 2 classes and that's my greatest 

regret ~ I should have taken all four!

I had so much inky fun making pages using some of Dyan's techniques.

Her Dylusion's sprays are gorgeous!

My favourite part of the weekend was learning how to make & add 

pockets and nteractive features in an art journal.

It is going to be so much fun incorporating these techniques into my 

own art journal, canvases & tags!
